Laugharne RFC 41 - 29 Lampter Town RFC
WRU ASDA League Division Three West
Saturday 20th October 2007

Lampeter returned from the place made famous by Dylan Thomas pointless despite notching 29 points and scoring three tries in an entertaining encounter which went the way of the home side by 41 points to 29.
Laugharne went in to the game unbeaten in the league to date having won all of their three encounters, whilst Lampeter have had a mixed start to the season, winning all of their home games but losing on their travels.
The home side took the lead immediately from the kick off with winger Alistair Chambers slotting over a penalty but this was cancelled straight from the restart, with Huw Thomas getting a drop goal following an excellent platform being created by his forwards with Barry Davies prominent in the move.
The visitors then took the lead thanks in the main to excellent use of the advantage rule by referee John Griffiths. The forwards drove at the Laugharne line and it was Captain Gary Davies who got the final touch and with Thomas converting soon to be followed by two more penalty kicks, there was only one side in the game as Lampeter held a thirteen point lead after only twenty minutes of play.
Fortune then turned in favour of the home side. With play once again in the Laugharne twenty two, an attempted clearance kick was not collected cleanly and from open play, the ball was fed out wide for winger Chambers to cross for a try totally against the run of play.
Lampeter however, struck back immediately with Thomas kicking his third penalty but with ten minutes of the first half remaining, Laugharne cut the Lampeter defensive line to ribbons in quick succession with fly half Ros Harries calling the shots.
The ease with which he broke through the Lampeter defensive line will be of great concern to coach Kevin Thomas and something that will have to be attended to over the coming weeks in training.
Full Back Simon Davies got the first and Harries got the second and with Chambers converting both, unbelievably, Laugharne went in to the interval ahead by three points with forty one points being scored in a pulsating forty minutes of play.
The second half continued at the pace of the first with Chambers increasing his sides advantage with a penalty but once again, Lampeter reduced the deficit to just one point when centre Marc Saunders got their second try from close range.
With the game entering the final quarter, both sides were pushing for the victory, and it was the home side through Flanker James who got the next score but this was soon cancelled out by Aled Thomas to once again reduce the deficit to just one point.
This score came from a five yard lineout which the home side surprisingly decided not to contest at the ensuing maul, a move tried by some sides in this years World Cup, but which on this occasion failed with referee Griffiths awarding the try to Thomas.
Lampeters discipline then let them down at a crucial time of the game allowing Chambers to get two more penalty kicks and with the game fast approaching full time, the score which settled the game again came from Chambers, his second try of the game and his sides fifth, following some excellent three quarter play by fly half Harries. This ensured his side would get a bonus point for their efforts and despite a late flurry in the dying minutes by the visitors to get a bonus point of their own,
Laugharne ran out winners by 41-29.

Lampeter will be bitterly disappointed and not getting anything from this game having totally dominated earlier on, but their defensive frailties was clearly evident and this cost them the game.
